Open the Spotted Koala app on your phone.
Make sure location services are enabled so the app can record where the koala was seen.
Tap:
Sighting
The app will automatically record your GPS location.
Answer the questions provided in the app, including:
Have you spotted a koala?
Is the koala alive?
Does the koala appear healthy
Can you tell if the koala is male/female
Presence of joey
Have you spotted other koalas on your walk?
Any additional notes about the observation
Providing as much information as possible helps improve the scientific value of each sighting.
Tap Upload to add a photo of the koala.
You can:
Take a photo using the camera in the app, or
Upload an existing image from your device
Photos help confirm sightings and provide valuable information about koala behaviour and habitat.
If prompted, allow the app to access your camera or photos.
Once all information has been entered, tap:
Save Sighting
Your observation will be stored and added to the Spotted Koala database.
When observing koalas:
Keep a safe distance
Do not approach or disturb wildlife
Avoid shining bright lights directly at koalas
Never attempt to handle wildlife
Your safety and the welfare of the animal always come first.
